Powder

Today's powder ranking for Hokkaido's major resorts, plus a 3-day snowfall outlook — new snow, snow temperature and lift wind-risk at a glance.

Where is The Day today

The Day returns when the season opens in December

How The Day is decided ›

The Day = enough dry snow fell overnight, and today will not ruin it with wind, rain or warmth. Three gates: ① ≥ 20 cm new snow from 16:00 yesterday to 08:00 today, with snow-time temperature ≤ −6 °C (dry); ② lifts likely to run (summit gust forecast < 40 km/h), no rain, high ≤ 0 °C; ③ base ≥ 100 cm (trees are skiable). All three = The Day; one missing = "close" with the reason; none pass = no The Day today. A weather-model estimate that cannot see tracks, and never an avalanche assessment.

Order: The Day (overlapping ranges tie), close (fewest misses first, then cm), the rest by cm. A display order, not a score.

The Day pairs a weather-model estimate (overnight snow × snow temperature × today's wind and rain) with JMA AMeDAS valley-station readings. It cannot see tracks; trails and lifts follow each resort's own report. Never an avalanche assessment, and never decided for tomorrow.

Comparing measured vs. modeled snow across 22 backcountry mountains? See Conditions

The powder score is a weather-model estimate (new snow × snow temperature × wind × freshness) that mainly tracks snowfall — it cannot tell you how tracked-out a slope is. For actual conditions and lift operations, rely on each resort's official daily report. It is not an avalanche assessment and does not decide whether you should go. Updated daily in season (Dec–Apr).
